Just arrived, this stunning & recently extensively recommissioned 1978 SL 350 Cabriolet. NCT Exempt & €56 Annual Road Tax.

A genuine car, that has been, without doubt cared for throughout its life. It has an excellent service history in the UK and is complete from 0-98,000 Miles. MOT Certs are also present from 66,000 miles right up to 124,000 Miles. It was a 4-owner car in the UK and was sold new on 11th June 1978 to a Mr. Cameron in Perth, Scotland. The car being sold by Dickson’s Of Perth, a Mercedes dealer in Scotland, now part of the Arnold Clark Group. The car was imported into Ireland in 2009 and was a regular on the Irish Vintage Scene, at various shows and runs. There is some maintenance history of the car from 2009 to now, but mileage states that it has only completed 13,000 Miles in 12 years while in Ireland. The mileage is genuine and the registration numbers for the car are as follows and in the following order: XVL 34, VES 777T & 78CW548. The car drives very well, and the gearbox is good with no slippage, good at speed and will cruise at 75mph with no adverse wheel or scuttle shake. Brakes are 70’s spongey, but discs and pads are good. Brake fluid was changed at 50,000miles and 75,000miles, so may benefit from a change now, but is not essential. The gearbox was overhauled and rebuilt at 83,000 Miles, along with new shocks . Newly fitted refurbished Mexican Hat Wheels, with new period 205/70/R/14 tyres. New rear suspension bushes have just been fitted. There has been a recent oil change within the last 2,000 miles. Rust is always the greatest concern for any SL and this car has recently been restored completely underneath at great expense! The typical areas prone to rust are the windscreen, front wings, front valence, bonnet, boot floors, sills and Drivers and Passenger footwells. All these areas have been addressed and the paint is good. Chrome is excellent, with nothing missing. Hardtop is excellent, as is the hood, with all mechanisms and lock pins working well. Interior is very good and has benefitted from a recent retrim and new carpets. Sound proofing is all dry, with no trim or cloth/leather sag in any areas. All switches work, as do lights, radio, windows and fans/heaters. Seats are comfortable and seatbelts tension safely and are anchored appropriately. Some small trim pieces could do with replacing or refitting and are easy to rectify, at little, or no cost. The interior is very good and looks and feels genuine, and above all useable, to commensurate with its 136,000 Mileage. Overall, it is a Condition 2 car and is a very useable classic with great appeal, in one of the best colour combinations of signal red and biscuit beige leather. With values rising at 11% per annum on 71-80 SL’s, this a sound and good investment for the future. This vehicle is NCT Exempt and qualifies for classic road tax. Trade in accepted.
